Objective: We all share a deep sense of responsibility for preparing students to succeed in school and in life as we teach them content knowledge and the corresponding academic language. For some of our students, English not their first language. This class will provide elementary teachers current, practical, and research-based principles and instructional strategies that mainstream teachers can use to meet the needs of these diverse English language learners. We will explore:
•   Acquiring language
•   Address standards
•   Correlate instruction with the stages of second-language acquisition
•   Explore Sheltered Instruction principles and strategies
