Attendance

ABSENCES

Every day of school is important, and we encourage regular attendance. On the other hand, children should not be sent to school if they show signs of illness. If a child becomes ill at school, a parent will be called to pick the child up in the health room. If your child has had a temperature, please wait until it is normal (98.6) for 24 hours before you send the child back to school.   All students well enough to come to school will be considered well enough to go outside for recess.

TARDINESS

Students are considered tardy if they are not inside their classroom when the tardy bell rings at 8:45 am. Tardy students must check in at the office to receive an office pass before going to class. Please be conscientious about on-time arrival so that students hear opening announcements about the day’s events and begin their school day with the rest of the class.
  • Students whose tardiness is the result of illness, family emergency, car troubles, or health care appointments will be considered excused tardy. Abuses of these excuses may result in a call from the principal.
  • Tardiness as a result of sleeping in, late start, doing homework, or coming to school late regularly will be considered an unexcused tardy even with a signed parent/guardian note.
  • Excessive tardiness or absenteeism will be considered when reviewing whether a waiver will be granted to students who live outside the Maywood attendance area.

SAFE ARRIVAL

If your child is going to be absent or tardy, there is a 24-hour voice mail system for your convenience. Call 425.408.5000 and leave your child’s name, teacher’s name, and reason for absence. Or you can email the teacher and/or office with the same information. Even though you have notified the teacher of an absence, please let the office know as well. If you do not call, the office will call to verify your child’s absence.

EARLY DISMISSAL

If you are picking your child us early, please send a note so the teacher will be prepared for the early dismissal. This will also help eliminate class interruptions. If you call at the end of the day, we are not always able to contact the teacher before the students are dismissed. To ensure that an authorized person picks up the student from school, the student has to be signed out from the office. Students will not be called to the office until parents arrive.
